Conor Gallagher: One of Chelsea's top performers could leave for Spurs this January

The January transfer window is beginning to take shape, and despite being the top perfomer for Chelsea this season when it comes to assists, chances created, tackles and interceptions, Conor Gallagher, who has been Chelsea's captain on eleven occasions in the Premier League this term, could be leaving the club this month. The 23-year-old English midfielder was heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge last summer, and rumours of an exit are emerging again this winter.

Despite being one of the most impressive players in an underperforming Chelsea side this season, it's being reported that the Blues would see it as 'pure profit' if they were to sell Gallagher due to him being an academy graduate. Add to this, the West London club being under increased pressure around FFP regulations after spending over €1 billion since new owner Todd Boehly took charge in 2022, the sale of one of their top midfielders may be forced upon them, and the club have spent over €200 million on central midfield players in the last year, after signing Enzo Fernández and Moisés Caicedo. However there have also been reports that manager Mauricio Pochettino has made it clear to the Chelsea board that Gallagher is a key part of his plans.

At this moment in time, London rivals Tottenham appear to be the front runners for Gallagher's signature. According to several media outlets, talks are ongoing between Tottenham and Chelsea. However, it has been reported that the Blues are holding out for a fee in the region of €65m, which Spurs may be unable to meet this January due to FFP restrictions of their own. The midfielder was also linked with Bayern Munich, Everton and Newcastle last season.

How much is Conor Gallagher worth?

Gallagher has seen his market value rise by €10m since the start of the season, after making himself a regular in Pochettino's Chelsea team this campaign, and his value now stands at €42m. Although it looks as though if the player was to leave the club, then it would be for a fee higher than his current market value.
